05/29/2009: MTV Premiers Twilight New Moon Trailer at MTV Movie Awards

02/24/2009: Bronson Pelletiere confirmed as a cast member.
  • He has not confirmed which role he has landed just that he will be playing a majour character in the next film.
  • it has also been rumoured that Dakota Fanning will be in New Moon as Jane.
  • Michael Sheen has been added to the cast of the Twilight sequel New Moon. He'll play Aro, the leader of the Volturi, director Chris Weitz confirms to The Daily Mail.
1-7-2009: Taylor Lautner WILL return as Jacob Black in New Moon
  • Chris Weitz and Stephenie Meyer have both confirmed and approved of this decision as short letters on stepheniemeyer.com.
  • It's official. Summit Entertainment has confirmed the filming of the second book in the Twilight series: New Moon.
  • Twilightmovie.org is the place you can go to get all the details, spoilers, behind the scenes photos and more for Twilight New Moon.
  • Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, is signed on to write the sequel (she wrote the first Twilight Movie), which may upset some fans who weren't happy with the first adaption.
12-7-08: Hardwicke out as Director of New Moon
  • As reported by Variety, Summit Entertainment and Cat Hardewick have parted ways. Seems they'd like the movie to air in late 2009 or early 2010, and she feels that schedule is impossible given the amount of post-production work that'll be required and the early stages of a script that still needs work. No word yet on who her replacement will be.

  • (Also according to Variety, see link above) Apparently Ms. Rosenberg turned in a draft the week Twilight opened. No word on when the final draft will be done, but it's definitely in the works
12-10-08: Release Date Set!
  • November 20, 2009 is the target release date for New Moon!
12-10-08: Who will play Jacob??!?!?!?!
  • Apparently the studio doesn't want to recast Taylor Lautner as Jacob and they're thinking about a replacement! Who will they get? I heard recently that George Clooney WILL be playin Jacob!!!!!!!!!!
12-12-08: Chris Weitz is the new director!
  • Summit's hired Chris Weitz, the director of The Golden Ass, to direct New Moon! The Official announcement is due on the 14th, but it looks like a done deal.

I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.
