Twilight Movie Reviews - Twilight Movie
Hardwicke ... is no great shakes as an auteur. She dawdles in sketching Bella's high school chums, and her direction of the dialogue will often bore those who aren't mouthing it from memory as the actors speak it. But she chose her leads wisely: the pretty Stewart is a questioning, questing presence; the Brit Pattinson, a sensitive-stud dreamboat. And Hardwicke is faithful to the book's chaste eroticism. The couple must put off having sex because, well, it could kill Bella. (AIDS metaphors are unavoidable here.) Yet waiting has its own delicious tension.

So Twilight isn't a masterpiece — no matter. It rekindles the warmth of great Hollywood romances, where foreplay was the climax and a kiss was never just a kiss.

Twilight Movie Reviews - Twilight Movie
The boxoffice question comes down to this: Every teenage girl in America, and presumably more than a few overseas, wants to see this movie. But do any guys? To a male, a vampire movie means blood 'n' guts and horror in the night. What's all this mushy stuff?

Indeed, Hardwicke seems to invite wisecracks. Scene: a high school chemistry lab. Human girl enters. Vampire boy sees her. She stares. He stares. Both are smitten. Music swells. The chemistry teacher brings over some worms. Isn't this romantic?

Nevetheless, there is considerable potential for this apparent franchise. One can only hope when it's done, everyone recognizes that the first film was the weakest.

Twilight Movie Reviews - Twilight Movie
It's a disappointment for sure, bound to cause the more dedicated fans of the book series to sigh in a way altogether different from the simpering maidens (of all ages) who filled the Seattle screening.
The frenzy is a testament to Meyer's writing, and the tons of money the movie rakes in should be unloaded on her doorstep because this movie-making magic doesn't add much besides a broad-planed, lovely face to go with the name of Edward Cullen.
Edward and Bella spend half the movie falling in love and the other half avoiding a pack of human-hungry vampires led by a quasi-Hessian named James, played by Tacoma's own Cam Gigandet. There are some bad special effects, driving guitar anthems and spurts of blood along the way, making for an enjoyable enough two hours, especially for anyone inclined to gobble up images of a hunky up-and-comer.

Twilight Movie Reviews - Twilight Movie
Getting Catherine Hardwicke to direct Twilight was a shrewd move, because the youthquake specialist of Thirteen treats teen confusion without a trace of condescension: she gets their grand passions and prickly defense mechanisms. She has reconjured Meyer's novel as a cloudburst mood piece filled with stormy skies, rippling hormones, and understated visual effects. What Hardwicke can't quite triumph over is the book's lackluster plot. On screen, Twilight is repetitive and a tad sodden, too prosaic to really soar. But Hardwicke stirs this teen pulp to a pleasing simmer. B

As much as it pains me to admit this- I have to be honest. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Twilight books. However, after waiting months and months, counting down days, annoying the crap out of everyone around me about "when my movie is coming out", I feel like I have been let down by a good friend or something. I am only 18 dollars poorer, and a whole hour of my life was wasted watching that movie. YES, ONE hour. I couldn't even MAKE myself stay to watch the whole thing. Half way into it I just knew that I would DIE if I forced myself to sit through another hour. Another minute. Hell, maybe even ONE more second would have pushed me over the edge. I could hear the good lord calling my name from the other side- I was so close to my death. Now- I know that complaining about this is not going to change the fact that a movie with so much potential sucked so bad- but maybe it will save a few poor, innocent people from having to go risk their lives just to waste time watching it. I am literally crying writing this because of how disappointed I actually am... I am very sorry. Stephenie Meyers- you are a very talented woman- but I think you should sue the filmmakers for throwing your work in the dirt like that. I'm sorry.

I read the books and omg the movie was hooorrrriibblllee!! Stewart couldnt act worth her life. Her expression never changed she looked like a statue!! It didnt even look like she loved Edward she was just horrible. The people who did the casting were horrible. Jacob Black was suppose to be cute but the actor had a beak nose and his hair looked disgusting and fake. Jasper looked like a complete nerd when the vampires were suppose to be hot!! You could see all their makeup caked on!! It looked extremely low budget and cheap. Something off an independent film. I could have done better with my camcorder!! They all looked ackward!! HORRIBLE ACTING. No chemistry at all. They should be embarrassed of that film. Stewart by far the worst than all of them!!
